Goodman, Chaney and Schwerner were civil rights workers who had come to Mississippi to help African-Americans register to vote. When the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church just outside Philadelphia, Mississippi was burned down, the three young men responded to investigate what happened. They were murdered by members of the KKK south of Philadelphia. Here are photos of the area where they were killed, and of the rebuilt church.
