The fight which occured here was the last Modoc victory during the battles in 1873 with the US Army. The Army wanted the Modocs to relocate to a reservation in Oregon. The Modocs did not want to leave their ancient homeland. The trail to Black Crater starts at the same place. The trail to the battlefield is a little over a mile long. - Thomas-Wright Battlefield - Lava Beds National Monument -
